Osteosarcoma

Osteosarcoma is the most common type of malignant bone issue, and accounts for 20% of all primary bone malignancies. Osteosarcoma typically presents itself in the form of a malignant bone tumor. Osteosarcoma is prevalent in children and adolescents, with nearly half of all cases every year affecting children under age 20. Causes for osteosarcoma are currently unknown, however an association between osteosarcoma and fluoride is being investigated in research studies.

Osteosarcoma: Diagnosing Bone Tumors

Like all forms of cancer it's best to diagnose osteosarcoma early. However, because physicians and orthopedists are quick to misdiagnose the issue and send patients to physical therapy without even an x-ray, musculoskeletal tumors and cases of osteosarcoma are often treated improperly. Because of the nature of the malignant tumor many physicians may see the tumor as a cyst, or rather perceive it as a muscular issue.
